UGHELLI — CHAIR-MAN of the Conference of Registered Political Parties of Nigeria in Delta State, Prince Obaro Unuafe, has charged Nigerians to protect their votes in the 2011 general elections.
Obaro, who gave the charge while addressing members of the Ethiope East Political Forum, during its meeting in Kokori, described the group as formidable, adding that it is one of the basic democratic structures put in place by leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state to brief the people on the programmes of the government.
Expressing satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of its affairs, he said the essence of democracy is to ensure that the people were allowed the freedom to vote for the candidate of their choice and allow the popular will of the people prevail in the electoral decision making process.
He said, “I am impressed and happy for witnessing today’s meeting of Ethiope East Political Forum. In fact, I must say this without mincing words that democracy is firmly rooted and practised in Ethiope East Local Government Area.
I hope soonest my local government area will follow the footstep of this council.â€
He commended Mr. Sunny Emeyese, Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly for leading the forum well. Earlier in his speech, Mr. Emeyese restated the commitment of the group to the well being of the people of the area.
