Umuahia—A MILD drama played out at Government House, Umuahia, weekend, shortly after the South-East Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leadership which came to woo Governor Theodore Orji had left, as the governor told the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, team that came two hours later he had nothing to do with the party anymore.

“I have gone for good,” Governor Orji told the new PPA leadership that stormed Government House to apologise to him over the shabby treatment meted to him by the party and pleaded with him to return to the fold.

The new PPA national leadership, led by its Board of Trustees, BoT,  Chairman, Dr. Iboko Imo Iboko, accompanied by the new National Chairman, Chief Chris Anele, members of the BoT, National Working Committee and National Executive Council, arrived Government House about two hours after the South-East leadership of PDP left.

PPA informed Governor Orji that the party had been reformed and was now democratic.

We’re sorry, says PPA

They said what happened to the governor in the PPA was a result of the “incompetence and stupidity” of its former leaders and promised that it would not happen again, not even to the least member of the party.

“We are here as a party to apologise, to say sorry for what the outgone national working committee did.

“You know when PPA was formed, we said we were going to have a large political family, operating under love. What happened surprised everybody and things just went fast to the embarrassment of many of us in the party.

“We felt that anybody treated in the way you were treated would, probably, behave in a way that will not only embarrass the party but also embarrass the individuals.

“But being the type of gentleman you are, very humble, you did all you did. We regret that such a thing should happen to your person. In fact, in our wildest dream, we would never think a thing like would happen to our dear Governor.

“When we were forming PPA, we agreed that we should not wash our dirty linen in public. What we witnessed that time was completely anti-PPA. Having said sorry, we expect that you will forgive us individually, collectively and even as a party.

“It is true that you reacted and went to a different party. Please Your Excellency, come back. What led to your exit will never happen again.

Even if you won’t come back…

“But if you cannot come back, we want to assure you that we are there for you because we know that you left PPA not because you did not like the party, but you were reacting to what happened.

“We would want you to regard the party as a party that you helped built. The party at its first outing, through your good luck, won two governorship positions and many legislative seats to the surprise of many political watchers in the country.”
