CITY — GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State,  yesterday, tendered an unreserved apology to journalists in the state, over the  attack on the state Correspondent of the The Nation Newspaper, Mr Otabor Friday, by political thugs, assuring that he will ensure that the matter was investigated.
Otabor was beaten to a pulp last Saturday during the by-election into the state House of Assembly in Ovia North-East constituency II. He was attacked when he attempted to take a snap shot after hundreds of thugs, who stormed the Igo Primary School to cast their votes forcefully, were having a heated argument with the electoral officers at the polling booth, who insisted that they were not registered to vote in that polling unit.
However, Oshiomhole who reacted while inspecting projects in Edo North district, expressed shock over the incident and promised to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

His words: “I am really sorry for what happened. We will ensure that we get to the root of the matter to know what actually happened. We have a responsibility to protect the media because we need the media to ensure that we have credible elections in this country and that is what I am committed to in this state and beyond.

“This is very sad and I will ensure that we do something serious about it”, he said. The Governor called for the compilation of a genuine voters register before next general elections, adding that the “foundation of a credible election is in a credible voter’s register, which we must ensure we get before the elections.”
