Orlu-Ihiala expressway now death trap

 By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—Precious lives and property may be lost along the ever busy Orlu-Akokwa and Orlu-Ihiala federal highways if urgent steps were not taken immediately to remedy the deplorable condition of the roads.

Similarly, indigenes of the communities located along these federal highways have complained bitterly of the probability of their being cut off from the rest of Imo State.

Vanguard’s survey revealed that some portions of the roads have broken down completely and not only pose grave danger to road users but also begging for immediate attention of the federal government.

Confirming the situation report during an interview with Vanguard in Owerri,  Imo State Sector Commander of the Federal
Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr. Angus Ibezim, said the fear  was real.

Mentioning the two points just behind Bishop Shanahan College, BSC, Road, Orlu, close to former Monier Construction Company, MCC, Ibezim also said the frightening gully erosion was almost cutting the road into two.

“The frightening gully erosion is almost cutting the road into two. It will soon disconnect the whole of Ideato North and South from Orlu, before the end of the current rainy season,” the sector commander said.
