PRESIDENT of Nigeria Automobile Technicians’ Association, NATA, Mr. Michael Ajayi Omonayin and his Nigeria National Fitters Association, NNFA, counterpart, Mr. Taiwo Sufianu, have been elected President and Deputy President respectively of Federation of Informal Workers’ Organizations of Nigeria, FIWON.
Their election took place at FIWONÂ maiden conference in Abuja.
At the conference, representatives of over 30 informal sector organisations that attended the conference, elected Mr. Baba Jaafaru, from Builders’ union as First Vice President while Angela Akande, from Cosmetologist Union, was voted in as second Vice President.
Similarly, Frances Onokpe of Tailoring Union was elected Treasurer, Hajia Rekiya Ibrahim, of Muma Association, was elected Financial Secretary while, Peter Adolor, from Autobike Riders Union was voted in as Internal Auditor.
The seven-man executive is to run the affairs of FIWON for the next four years.
The conference was witnessed by representatives of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, Nigeria Union of Post and Telecommunications Employees, NUPTE
Radio, Television and Theatre Workers’ Union, RATTAWU, International Labour Organization, ILO
the DFID/ENABLE, Country Representative, Frederick Ebert Foundation, representative of the Special Adviser to the President on the Informal Sector, representative of Adviser to the President on Millennium Development Goals, MDG, office, that of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, SMEDAN, and Director General, National Automative Council, NAC.
