Awka — The Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo, has advised Igbo people against quarrelling where a new state would be created in Igboland.
Instead, the people should work toward getting the demand approved, Anambra State chapter of the organisation said in a four-point communiqué in Awka on Monday.
The communiqué, signed by the Chairman, Dr Phillip Atanmo, urged Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Anambra State Creation Committee Chairman and traditional ruler of Onitsha, to liaise with state governors in the South East on the matter.
The communiqué also urged the Federal Government to create employment opportunities for youths and tackle the high rate of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the zone.
Tasks FG over insecurity in South East
“Kidnapping in the South East is giving Ohaneze sleepless nights. We, therefore, call on the Federal Government to come to our aid by providing adequate security in the area.
Ohaneze also cautioned Ndigbo against making unguarded utterances over the 2011 presidential election.
“We call on the people to look onto the group for leadership and direction.
“Don’t make remarks that may not be in tandem with what the entire group believes in as regards the 2011 presidential election in the media,†the communiqué counselled.
