As part of measures to improve and enhance efficiency, management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has embarked on massive training and retraining of members of staff.
To this end, the agency has sent some members of staff on both short and long term training to enhance their productivity and help in professionalizing its function.
This is in line with the 5 point Agenda of the Agency’s Management, which is hinged on competent and committed human capacity.
NIMASA is also to carry out a planned routine Agency wide redeployment to ensure that round pegs are put in round holes. Redeployment within the Agency has been an on-going exercise since the inception of the present managements.
Head of Public Relations, Ego Nwokocha, noted that the action is geared towards repositioning the agency for better effectiveness in the discharge of its statutory functions. The Agency’s Management has continued to create conducive work environment which will ultimately lead to job satisfaction, adequate motivation and high productivity.
The Agency has also renewed its commitment to staff welfare in order to motivate members of staff. Management has made appropriate arrangements to guarantee the staff housing scheme, an initiative of the Agency’s Thrift and Cooperative society.
The first phase of the scheme which is located in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, is about 70% completion stage, while the 2nd Phase of the project is located in Lagos.
Furthermore NIMASA Management has provided guarantee for a leasing facility with the Leasing Company of Nigeria Limited. This is to provide a direct finance lease facility for acquiring operational vehicles.
This scheme was initiated by the immediate past Executive Management of the Agency led by Dr. Ade Dosumu.
