Immediate past president of Ijaw   Youth Council (IYC), Dr.Chris Ekiyor has advised youths in the country to begin to look at Agriculture for self actualization because there are no jobs anywhere.
“The focal point is to say that Nigerian youths must begin to look at Agriculture for self actualization because there is no job anywhere,†Ekiyor Advised.
“ The oil companies are tactically employing people and say they are not employing ; NNPC, Ministries are doing same ; surreptiously, they employ their brothers, friends and nobody gets the job but people are getting employed .So,if you keep waiting and you don’t have anybody in government ,you probably will never get a job.â€
Ekiyor, who disclosed that he has secured 600 plots of lands to embark on Agriculture, said the essence is to show Nigerian youths that they don’t need money to embarking on agriculture  but commitment.
“Our ultimate is to show unemployed Nigerians that they don’t need millions but commitment, and identify a family and do simple hybrid cassava planting,†Ekiyor stated .
According to Ekiyor, he started giving investing in Agriculture a second though because the federal government has some 22000 youths in training, which he noted has to be accommodated .
“I have started thinking in this light because right now the government has 22000 repentant militants in some place they are training and they will never have a place to put them,†Ekiyor stated
The former IYC president stressed that it would amount to another crisis if the 22000 repentant militants in training are looking up to government to absorb then, rather than explore other avenues for empowerment .
“I am particularly worried that until a lot of us set up initiatives that will make them understand that there is opportunity they may be looking at government at Government and not get the required result and create new kind of problem,†Ekiyor stated .
“But if we start now and we begin to work on agriculture, a lot of them can begin to think that there is another opportunity out there that is not necessarily oil and gas or government.â€.
