The number of stakeholders who have thrown their weight behind the ICT Taxation and Clean Enviroment conference has continued to grow at arithmetic progression.
MTN Nigeria at the weekend said the conference which is being anchored by three media organisations in the ICT industry was timely and topical.
It has therefore communicated its support to the organisers. The Nigerian Information and Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has also endorsed the conference which comes up end of the month in Lagos.
AITÂ Infotech Network, eWorld Magazine and IT Egde are collaborating in what is seen as a pioneering role to provide a platform for stakeholders to rally to resolve the protracted issue of multiple and in some cases illegal taxation that has plagued the sector.
This is the first time all the stakeholders both from the ICT and agencies from the three tiers of government are being rallied to a common platform to discuss the issues in a more whollistic and collaborative manner.
It will be recalled that previous talks on these issues have been largely sectional and did not involve all the stakeholders involved.
It will be recalled that both Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) and the Association of Licensed Telephone Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) have since endorsed the summit.
According to Conference organisers multiple taxations have continued to be a source of worry to telecom operators who argued that the various taxation levies by the three tiers of government in Nigeria are illegal and have contributed to weigh down on their profitability and investment sustainability.
The tax administrators have argued otherwise, creating the scenario that the parties involved are not communicating appropriately and understandably.
Last week, the President of ATCON said that a number of ICT companies were unhealthy due to a number of reasons, some of which are not unconnected to illegal and multiple taxation.
The conference organisers said there are a number of collaborative efforts   by stakeholders in the ICT sector in Nigeria and globally that areaimed at pushing the frontiers of greener environment and greater economic sustain ability.
