ABUJA— THE political strength of late Abubakar Rimi came to limelight yesterday when the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr.Okwesilieze Nwodo lamented that if he were still living, the lingering political logjam in Kano State would have been resolved for long.
Speaking yesterday when he received elders of the party from Kano state at the party’s National Secretariat, Nwodo who recounted how frustrating it could be for party members to be denied a sense of belonging and opportunity to express themselves, however explained that he was determined to restore order to the party.
Meanwhile, the PDP Kano state elders under the aegis “Kano State PDP Unity Committee had earlier warned that if the party must win the State, there was the urgent need for the dissolution of the Faruk Iya led State Executive Committee against the backdrop that it is too weak and it lacks what the group described as lacking effective focus, adding, “it should therefore be disbanded while a Caretaker Committee of credible party members should be constituted taking into account the different interest groups in the party to take charge till the 2011 electionsâ€.
Presenting a position paper on behalf of the group, the spokesperson, Alhaji Usman Alhaji who noted that the current SEC has been marginalizing majority of the party membership to the extent that every thing concerning the party in the state allegedly revolves around the directives of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The group called on the Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo-led NWC to immediately step in and reconcile the various groups, which they insisted have been working at variance with the party’s objectives.
