A two-storey building  on Akinbayode Street, Papa-Ajao area of Lagos was today gutted by fire. According to an eye witness account, not even a pin was salvaged from the inferno.Â
The fire started at about 1:10 a.m.. It was said to have been caused by a spark from one of the air conditioner in the building.Â
It took the firemen from both the Federal and Lagos State Fire and Safety Services, who arrived the scene about 2:40am, almost two hours to put out the fire. Policemen from the Rapid Response Squad were also at the scene to prevent looting.Â
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started when all the occupants of the building were fast asleep.Â
The eyewitnesses said efforts by sympathisers to gain assess into the building to put out the fire and salvage some of the properties failed, as petrol that was kept in kegs and generators kept adding to the inferno.
