FG reviews 376 bilateral agreements

*Says there’s nothing to show so far

ABUJA—AFTER several years of operations with almost nothing to show for it, the Federal Government yesterday approved the immediate review of some 376 socio-economic and political bilateral agreements with other countries.

The government expressed frustration and dissatisfaction that of the 376 bilateral agreements it entered with other foreign countries in the international arena, almost all of them have minimally preformed, saying there is nothing to show for the co-operation.

This was one of the main decisions taken at the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo, following the absence of President Goodluck Jonathan, who was attending the conference of eight developing countries, D-8 Summit, holding at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Meanwhile, the Council yesterday also directed all Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, to prepare a project implementation report for the year. The report which is expected to be turn in within the next two weeks is to ensure that the government fully implement the 2010 budget.

Due to the rather dismal performance of the bilateral deals, the Ministry of National Planning was directed by FEC to commence an immediate but holistic review of all the various agreements which cover almost all sectors to ascertain the level of loss government has accommodated since independence.
