ABUJA—BARELY a fortnight after President Goodluck Jonathan expressed dissatisfaction with the secretive manner his late boss, President Umaru Yar’Adua’s ill health was handled, a crack team of security operatives has begun probe into the incident.
President Jonathan had in his maiden media chat last month expressed displeasure over how a cabal shielded the late President from Nigerians, especially himself while the late Yar’Adua was ill.
He had said that he was sure the relevant security agencies were investigating the matter to enable Nigerians know who did what during the late President’s ill health saga.
Vanguard investigation revealed that the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps and the State Security Service, SSS, were said to have begun a high level probe to unravel the circumstances that led to the late President’s death.
An impeccable source close to the security circles confirmed the investigation, saying the NSA, Chief of Army Staff and Director General of the SSS were looking at the issue.
The source said the suspicious role allegedly played by various individuals who had worked closely with the late President, both within and outside government, were also to be investigated.
Vanguard further gathered that the said investigation, would cover the alleged disappearance of funds for security votes for the office of the late President.
The fund allegedly disappeared between November 2009, when the late President Umaru Yar’Adua was admitted into a Saudi Arabian hospital and his return in February, 2010.
Until his death, the late President was shielded from top government officials including President Goodluck Jonathan, who was the Vice President then.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity said: “I can tell you authoritatively that the security agencies have commenced investigations into the matter to really know those who were behind the issue. They are looking at the roles of some individuals and anyone found culpable will be punished adequately.
The government is really interested to also know the roles played by some individuals outside the government in the whole saga.”
It was not, however, clear when the security agencies would turn in their findings.
