Enyimba’s Osaze Idehen has said that the Aba-based outfit were not prepared for last weekend’s CAF Confed Cup game against Zanaco of Zambia.
The two-time Champions League winners, were a surprise 4-0 losers away from home, their heaviest defeat in recent times competing in any continental competition.
The performance has generated an inquest of sort with the club’s chairman, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, threatening to clampdown on the players for their “unprofessional†display.
They host the Zambians in less than a little over a week from now and need to score at least five goals without conceding any goal to avoid elimination in the last 16 round.
Speaking on what caused the shoddy showing in Lusaka, Idehen said that the players were caught up in the euphoria of winning the Nigerian Premier League and completely forgot of the impending date with the Zambian side.
“We were just not ready for the match. We did not prepare at all and we got our due reward. We did not deserve to get a draw out of the match because the preparations were not there for us to do well.
“I was not surprised at all with the outcome because the camp was just open for only four days and most of us, did not come early. In fact, only 15 players were in campâ€, added Idehen, who however, did not play the game.
