By Emma Ovuakporie

ABUJA —  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, weekend, arrested a Briton, David Littlechild for allegedly defrauding Nigerian Sports Ambassador, John Fashanu of over N85million.

According to our source, the Briton who is the Managing Director of Business Mart Limited, located in Ikeja, Lagos State duped Mr. Fashanu in the  419ner’ s style.

The suspect who was arrested last Thursday in Abuja by operatives of the anti-graft agency was said to have duped the former foreign footballer of £300,000 and another $100,000 by collecting the money under false pretence.

After his arrest, the Briton who was said to have made useful statements to the operatives of the commission was discovered to have been convicted four times in the United Kingdom.

Though the details of the transaction that led to the duping of Fashanu were not obtained, Vanguard reliably gathered that the connection between the two may go back as far as when Fashanu was still residing in the United Kingdom.

When contacted, Head, Media and Publicity for the EFCC, Femi Babafemi confirmed the arrest of the suspect but declined further comment or explanation on the issue.

It was also gathered that the Briton who is cooling off in the cell of the EFCC may be charged to court anytime this week in line with the provision of the law.
