Budget reduction, a setback to development, ABUCCIMA DG

Mr. Joe Wenegieme, the Director-General, Abuja Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ABUCCIMA) says any budget reduction will result constitute a setback to the country’s development.

Wenegieme, who said this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, said if the country was planning to be one of the 20 largest economies by 2020, it should avoid tampering with its budget.

“The cut down of the budget, will definitely affect the economy because if you have planned before to do certain things before the budget was cut, then you will obviously have some things to put on hold.

“In the productive sector, the action will affect employment, the MDGs or think of our aspiration that by 2020 we will be among the 20 largest world economies,” he said.

The director-general called on the stakeholders to go back to the drawing table to work out a modality that would assist the country in ensuring that a cut in the budget would not truncate development programmes
