ABUJA — Governor Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno State said yesterday that the people of the state are celebrating the resumption of oil exploration in the area.

He said the people are excited over the possibility of oil discovery in the state, and expressed gratitude to President Goodluck Jonathan for approving the return of oil firms to the area.

Senator Modu Sheriff who expressed optimism over the presence of huge deposit of crude oil in the state said if oil has been discovered in the  Republic of Chad, then there is hope for the state.

According to him, since the state which is just about 100 kilometres from Chad lies in the same belt with the location where oil was discovered in Chad, then it is obvious that the state has oil.

He also noted that when oil is fully explored, revenues that will accrue to the state will go a long way to transform the state and open it to full development.

Governor Sheriff told State House Correspondents after a meeting between the President and a delegation from the State said that the delegation used the opportunity to condole with the president over the death of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
