PORT HARCOURT — FORMER governorship candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, in Rivers State, Chief Sergeant Awuse, has crossed over to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state. Awuse said his decision stemmed from his conviction that there was now internal democracy in the party.
He added that he pulled out of the party with his supporters in 2002 because of what he termed, the lack of internal democracy in the party under the former leadership.
In a statement by his aide, Mr. Arthur Uchedu, he called on his followers in the state to participate in the on-going registration of the PDP, adding that they should cooperate with the party leadership at all levels, including Governor Chibuike Amaechi and President Goodluck Jonathan.
It will be recalled that Awuse contested the last governorship election in the state and lost to the PDP. He later challenged the outcome of the election at the tribunal, where the case was struck out for lack of merit.
