Amanze Uchegbulam has reacted to allegations of corruption levelled against him and three other top members of the Nigeria Football Federation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
He was the First Vice President but was Sunday morning impeached along with Sani Lulu, the President of the federation and chairman of Technical Committee, Taiwo Ogunjobi.
The EFCC on Tuesday said it had invited them to explain how the federation spent some monies meant for football administration.
The federation received N900m for the World Cup while the Sports Ministry, we gathered received N350m.
“I have heard and read all the stories about the federation and they are not true,†Uchegbulam started. He was fuming on phone.
“ I want to talk about myself. I strongly believe that I’m a victim of my great loyalty to the President of the Federation. I was loyal to the system and that has been my style.
As Vice President, I was statutorily dealing on organisation of competitions and disciplinary matters. I never dealt with financial matters. So, why are they trying to tarnish my reputation? Why are they calling me to render accounts on financial matters? I never approved a kobo for any job or anything.
All I got were my due allowances or estacodes. They should look elsewhere if it’s on money matters. The President, Secretary General and Chairman of Finance Committee in the person of Aminu Maigari who is now the President dealt with financial matters, not me.
For four years that we served I never disbursed a kobo, so nobody should link me with anything money. I did my job to the best of my ability. I was loyal to the President and that’s probably why they are victimising me. It is not fair,†Uchegbulam concluded.
