2011: Ex-IYC boss seeks North’s support for Jonathan

By Samuel Oyadongha

Immediate past  president of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Dr. Chris Ekiyor, has called on the north to support President  Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2011 presidential election.

The IYC chieftain, in an interview in Yenagoa, urged all those fanning the ember of division against the backdrop of the alleged zoning arrangement of the presidency to the north by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to have a rethink in the interest of national unity.

Ekiyor said though the recent meetings of over 150 northern leaders in Kaduna and Abuja was part of their rights to association and political opinion, their position against the 2011 aspiration of Jonathan would be resisted.

His words, “If they feel they can gather and issue threat to the nation, we will resist them. We have tried as a region to sustain the nation through oil and we demand the Presidency will all passion.

“The Niger Delta provides the resources that sustain the nation but they said we can’t provide the right leadership to lead the nation. It is wrong. They should present a candidate and forget those things they are saying. If they continue the call for the country to disintegrate over this issue of zoning, we will tell them we are ready. It will be better for the nation to support a Niger Delta president come 2011.”
