The Zamfara Government has promised to compensate the families of victims of the lead poisoning that has claimed more than 163 children in various parts of the state.
The Acting Governor, Alhaji Muhktar Anka, gave the promise on Friday during a sympathy visit to Dareta, one of the affected communities in Anka local government of the state.
He said the government was deeply touched by the calamity.
â€œWe will make a comprehensive list of all people affected by the recent lead poisoning disaster, with a view to providing their families succour in form of compensation, to enable them to carry on with normal life,â€ Anka said.
He further said that the government, in collaboration with international organisations, had committed sufficient energy and resources to control the spread of the contamination and death toll in the area.
He added that the state government would collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development to re-organise mining activities in state to make it safer and more profitable.
