Eagles vice captain, Joseph Yobo, said that the team has been boosted by their 3-1 win against North Korea last Sunday.
Yobo is sure to lead the Eagles out against Argentina on June 12 in the World Cup opener. He stated that their last warm up friendly was the tonic, the Eagles needed to wrap up a good match against their highly rated Argentine opponents.
“Our last game against North Korea lifted us up and we are in high sprits. It was a big morale booster for us. It was also a good test because we’re playing South Korea and we enjoyed the game.
“We needed confidence ahead of the Argentina game and scoring three goals is a good boost,†Yobo said.
His Everton of England team mate Yakubu Aiyegbeni also added that the Eagles will play Argentina with an aim to win, stressing that the hype on star player Lionel Messi will not cow the Eagles.
“Messi’s the same player, like a man. He’s a good player and we respect him. We hope he respects us too.
“But we are not just thinking about Messi, we’re thinking about playing against Argentina, a good team.
“In football, anything can happen. You cannot afford to write off Nigeria because we also have quality players in our ranks who are determined to win,†said Yakubu.
