Nigeria forward, Peter Osaze Odemwingie has shrugged off suggestions that being left out of the starting line up against Diego Maradona’s Argentina was going to dampen his enthusiasm for working for the team.
Osaze who got off the bench to create a lot of problems for the Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina side expressed surprise at being left on the bench at the start of the encounter, which he said was the most important in the group, insisted that he was determined to remain professional and wait for his chance.
Odemwingie, who plays for Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow, was a surprise omission from the team that started at Ellis Park, with Chinedu Obasi chosen instead on the left of a three_man attack.
Said the Lokomotive Moscow star, “I was very disappointed, but we are a team, some of us are not going to start. There are 23 (players) here, you just have to accept it, not show your emotions and be professional about it. That’s just the way it is.â€
The forward, who brought back life to the Eagles attack in the second half, admitted it was frustrating to miss out on a start against Argentina. “Yes of course, it was a big game _ one of the biggest games in someone’s career,†he said.
But Osaze scored a low point when he had a chance to pass tp a free Martins and decided to run on, denying Nigeria a big chance to equalise
He said he would continue to work for the team and ensure Nigeria qualified for the next stage of the competition by winning the next two matches against Greece and South Korea.
