The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) yesterday said its choice of  2011 presidential flagbearer in the presidential elections will ‘shake Nigerians’ but hinged the choice of such a candidate on who the ruling Peoples Democratic Party picks as its Presidential Candidate.

Addressing a press conference on some issues in Abuja yesterday, the national chairman of the party, Chief Edwin Ume-Ezeoke also accused the police in Zamfara state of intimidating its members.

Ezeoke said,  “When the PDP comes up with their presidential candidate for the presidential election, then we shall come up with our candidate and this will shake the entire country. Just wait and see what will happen.”

Speaking on the alleged police intimidation of its members in Zamfara state, the ANPP  boss said the police in the state refused the party’s request to embark on a tour of the state in order to inaugurate council executive.

Meanwhile, several members of the party have intensified their interest in the leadership of the party which is expected to be inaugurated at the party’s convention slated for  July 17.

Among those who are said to be interested in the position of the national chairman of the party are the former governor of Edo state, Chief John Oyegun (Edo), former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party as well as a presidential aspirant of the party, Chief Harry Akande(Oyo), former national secretary of the party, Chief George Moghalu(Anambra) and the incumbent National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Emma Eneukwu(Enugu) and the current chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Gambo Mogaji (Kano).

As part of the national convention of the party, local government congresses are expected to take place today where chairmen of the party in the 7774 local  governments of the federation will emerge, while the state congresses of the party will take place on July 3. The state congresses will elect the 36 states chairmen and the Federal Capital Territory as well as delegates to the national convention which is expected to take place on July 17.
