Obi tasks clergy on prayers against kidnapping, robbery

By Enyim Enyim
ONITSHA — Gover-nor Peter Obi of Anambra State has called on religious leaders in the state to pray fervently against incessant kidnapping of people and armed robbery in the state.

The Governor, who spoke through his deputy, Mr Emeka Sibeudu, on the occasion of the inauguration of the newly elected officers of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, said the issue of security was not the responsibility of government alone but that of every individual in the country.

“We, as government, require your prayers for peace to reign in the state in order for the good intention of our people-oriented administration to be established in the lives of our people,” said Governor Obi.

Congratulating the new executive of PFN, Obi said he had no doubt that they will live up to the expectations of the people who elected them.

National Vice-President of PFN, Bishop Paul Nwachukwu, urged Christians to rise-up spiritually and morally against kidnapping, armed robbery and all forms of violent crimes perpetuated in the South-East.

Nwachukwu gave the charge while delivering a sermon titled, No More Time, at Grace of God Mission Church, Onitsha.

He said the church was sleeping over its responsibility of bringing violent crimes, such as kidnapping and armed robbery, ravaging the entire South-East to a stop, saying that “If the people of God truly want to put an end to these shame, they can and posses the power to do so’’.

Nwachukwu, who is also the South-East Co-ordinator of PFN, stressed that it could be achieved by Christians putting their faith together and praying it out.

He said “it is unfortunate that most of these menace is caused by young boys who are from Christian homes and bears Christian names, such as Matthew, Luke, John etc.

“This shows that the church needs to do more work on its family values and  children up-bringing, especially in prayers, since occultism is spreading like wildfire, even in secondary schools today.’’

The  new Chairman of PFN Anambra State, Bishop David Eberechukwu, said that his 8-man led-executive would do more in the areas of evangelism and re-modeling the life-style of youths in the state.

He promised that they will use the word of God to transform the state especially, to bring our youths back to God and teach them to be content with what they have and wait for God in all their endeavours’’.
