Nigeria to host IBA June 23

The International Bar Association, IBA,  Section on Energy, Environmental, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law, SEERIL,  and the IBA Arbitration Committee in conjunction with the IBA African Regional Forum will hold the IBA-SEERIL Arbitration Regional Conference in Lagos.

The event slated for June 23 – 25, has the theme, “Resolving International Energy and Infrastructure Disputes.”

It will be declared open by the Governor Babatunde Fashola, SAN, of Lagos State, while the keynote address will be delivered by David Rivkin from New York, USA.

The conference is expected to address industry issues on cost of resolving oil and gas disputes which have been a major concern to industry players for a long time. The Conference Co-chair, Mrs. Dorothy Ufot, SAN, acknowledged that the international oil and gas industry of which Nigeria is a major player is witnessing phenomenal growth and the size of infrastructural projects in oil and gas has equally been phenomenal in recent times.

She said, “this conference presents an opportunity for lawyers, company executives, in-house counsels involved in oil and gas, international construction and environmental matters, other industry and arbitration experts both in Africa and the rest of the world to come together and sharpen their skills in the art of resolving infrastructure and energy disputes.”

The three day conference she added, will have in attendance respected international legal luminaries, government officials and representatives of the private sector who will all add value to the status of the conference as speakers on various industry related topics.
