KADUNA — As the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, prepares to elect new national officers next month, Arewa Lawyers Forum, ALF, weekend in Kaduna State, adopted Chief Joseph Gadzama, SAN, as its candidate for the presidency of the lawyers’ association.
ALF, has meanwhile, set aside its earlier adoption of Chief Joseph Daudu, SAN, for the same office by a section of ALF elders, saying the elders exceeded their mandate by exercising a power they never had.
The Forum in a communique after its meeting, weekend said: “The authority of the ALF stems and is anchored on the authorities of the 33 branches comprising the core Northern Region’s Bar, as it was formed based on the collective will of all the branches.
“The decision of some selected elders of the forum at a meeting in Abuja, adopting a candidate for the post of President of our great association in person of Dauda, SAN, as the candidate from the North whose turn it is to produce the next President of NBA, runs contrary to the resolution of the ALF at its meeting held on the 13/2/2010 in Katsina.â€
“The forum hereby resolves and with the power conferred on it, agrees to present the following as its candidate from the North by adopting and endorsing Gadzama, SAN, as its candidate for the post of President of the NBA delegate election scheduled for July 2010 at Abuja, Nigeria.â€
