Lecturers turn college into war zone

By Emma Amaize

WARRI— EDJEBA community, which plays host to the College of Education, Warri in Delta State has raised an alarm,  that lecturers have turned the institution into a “war zone” over who becomes the substantive Provost.

The community  wants the state Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to intervene urgently by appointing a substantive Provost for the Collage to avoid bloodshed.

In a statement in Warri by their  leaders, Messrs. Omamohwo Jamisi,  Onaye Philip, Unukefe Johnson and Amerika Inumesa, the community called on the lecturers  to stop,  forthwith,  their on-going media war on the matter.

According to them, “as a peace- loving people, we call on our amiable Governor, Dr. Uduaghan to look at the issue of the appointment of the Provost of the College, dispassionately and use his  good office to appoint a person of high academic and scholarly repute.”

They pointed out somebody emerged tops at the last interview conducted for the position and urged the Governor to unconditionally appoint him as Provost.

“We the host community,  therefore,  use this medium to appeal to our amiable Governor,  to act fast before these greedy self-seeking and desperate group of persons,  who call themselves intellectuals,  reduce our community to a war zone.

“College of Education is an academic institution of higher learning and not a local government council or a political party, where rotation in the name of federal character is perpetuated at the expense of merit,” they added.
