Imo govt disowns campaign posters

By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI— Imo State government has dissociated itself from the campaign posters and fliers going across the country, especially the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, in which the photograph of Governor Ikedi Ohakim is placed together with that of the former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida.

The government lamented that the impression being created by the posters and fliers was that the governor had accepted to run with Babangida in the forthcoming presidential election in Nigeria.

The clarification, which is contained in a press statement by the Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Dr. Ethelbert Okere, also said Governor Ohakim did not have any understanding whatsoever with any individual to run as a vice presidential candidate in the 2011 general election.

The statement, however, attributed the posters to “the handwork of enemies of the state, who are bent on painting a wrong picture of Governor Ikedi Ohakim.”
