ABUJA—The Federal Government yesterday disbursed N24 billion to 12 tertiary institutions for programme upgrade and improvement of the teaching and learning environment across the six geo-political zones.
The government however, asked for intensive monitoring to ensure the effective implementation of the funds disbursed under the 2nd phase of the Education Trust Fund, ETF, special intervention.
Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i who disclosed this at the Education Trust Fund, ETF, annual strategic planning workshop with Federal and State universities, explained that the selection was based on the principle of one university and one polytechnic or college of education per geo-political zone.
According to her, “however, unlike last year where only federal institutions were selected, some state-owned institutions have been selected this time around. In selecting the universities, more consideration was given to 2nd generation universities while there are more state-owned polytechnics and colleges of education than the federal.”
Each university, she said, is allocated the sum of N3 billion while each polytechnic and college of education will receive the sum of N1 billion, making a total of N24 billion.
