Edo PDP faction gives condition for peace

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—THE Dr Samuel Ogbemudia- led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  in Edo State, yesterday gave condition for the resolution of the protracted crisis in the state PDP.

The group said that the leaders of the party in the three senatorial districts must be allowed to determine their affairs, adding that they would not tolerate any form of interference in the politics of the South senatorial district led by Dr Ogbemudia.

The group laid down the condition yesterday,  in a meeting at the residence of Dr. Ogbemudia. The group, led by Elder Sunny Uyugue, formally presented Dr Ebegue Amadasun as the authentic leader of the party in Orhiomwom Local Government Area.

Briefing newsmen shortly after the meeting, a leader of the party in the South senatorial district, Chief Arisco Osewengie, said that Dr Ogbemudia must be allowed to take control of the party in the South district, regretting that “the reason why this crisis has been prolonged is because some leaders want to impose their stooges in all the offices and that is unacceptable to us here in Edo South. Dr Ogbemudia is our leader and he must be respected.”

Chief Osewengie added, “we are interested in peace, Chief Ogbemudia is in charge of Edo South senatorial district, Anenih is in charge of Edo Central, while Admiral Okha Akhigbe is  charge of Edo North. So we want to remove ourselves from self slavery. We are not against settlement but settlement of master and servant is what we do not want. What we are saying is that the three senatorial districts should have autonomy.”
