Edo LG boss tasks AC on free primaries

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—THE Chairman of Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr Crosby Eribo, yesterday, stressed the need for the leadership of the Action Congress, AC, in the state to allow free and fair primaries in the forthcoming general elections.

He said that the efforts being made by the state Governor, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, to ensure free and fair election through his ‘One-man One-vote’ campaign, could be jeopardized unless the leaders allowed internal democracy, which he said, would produce capable candidates for the general elections.

Eribo, who spoke while addressing the leaders of the Action Congress in Ikpoba Okhai Local Government Area,  when he kicked off his campaign for the House of Representatives seat for Ikpoba Okhai/Egor Federal Constituency, called on all politicians to emulate Governor Oshiomhole’s zero tolerance to election malpractice, adding that the AC will become stronger if the leaders abide by the principle of ‘one man one vote.’

On the reason why he wants to contest for the 2011 House of Representatives election, Eribo said, “our people have suffered immensely as a result of poor representation at the Upper House. We have not seen any meaningful project that has been attracted to our area by the man representing us in the House of Representatives.

“I have spent about four years as chairman of a council and I know the problems of our people, particularly those at the grassroot better than what we are seeing today. If you investigate, you will find out that many aspirants or even the man representing us now in the House of Representatives, does not know the population of Egor or Ikpoba Okhai. And when you do not have all these facts, there is no way you will be able to attract projects in your area as a lawmaker.

And by the grace of God, I am equipped with these facts to make the difference,” he said.
