ONITSHA— Residents of Iyiowa Odoekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area has protested against alleged lack of government presence in the place since the creation of Anambra State in 1991.
Led by Iyiowa Odoekpe landlords, the residents complained against the N35,000 levy for boreholes imposed on them by a government agent.
The protesting placard-carrying residents, who took to the streets in their thousands, blocked Atani road, obstructing traffic making vehicular movements impossible for over three hours.
They displayed placards with such inscriptions as “N35,000 IGR for borehole, we reject itâ€, “Governor Obi, are you happy that our children are drowning in the River Niger and Idemili River in search of water?â€
“Odoekpe is not benefitting from ANIDS. “Government have no justification for asking us to pay N35,000 for Boreholes we dug for ourselvesâ€, “Governor Obi is Chinedu Aniachuna your revenue agentâ€, We are tired of intimidation by government revenue agentsâ€.
