Umuahia – THE Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, and the Tor Tiv IV, Dr. Alfred Akawe Torkula, has called for a review of the single five-year term of office for Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, saying that thee is need for a second term for the vice chancellors who do well in their first term.
Akawe Torkula who spoke when the members of the governing council of the university, led by the Pro_Chancellor and Chairman of the Council who paid him a courtesy visit in his palace in Gboko, Benue state, said, although a single five year term of office was a policy of the Government, a high_performing Vice_Chancellor ought to be given a chance to do a second term.
According to him, such decision would serve as encouragement for such high_performing Vice_Chancellors, arguing that experience is not learnt but comes with practice.
The Tor Tiv commended the Vice_Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Professor Ikenna Onyido, for doing a good job in steering the University towards academic excellence. Particularly, he commended the vice chancellor for peace, saying that Prof. Onyidoâ€™s performance in the last four years qualifies him for a second term.
