Benue State Government has decried the activities of fake insurance firms operating in the state who issue phony insurance cover to unsuspecting motorists and other members of the public lamenting that their activities have constituted a drain on the state’s Internally Generated Revenue earnings.
The Chairman of the Benue State Board of Internal Revenue, Mr. Andrew Ayabam made this outcry in Makurdi at the formal flag off of the Compulsory Third Party Motor Insurance Policy in Benue State .
Ayabam noted that over the years, the people and Government of the state have been faced with the challenge posed by the indiscriminate issuance of counterfeit third party motor insurance cover by fake operators in the system whom he noted, exploited the ignorance of members of the public to shortchange both the government and their victims.
He pointed out that the activities of these phony firms have forced many motorists to seek third party motor insurance policy outside the state, hence denying the government huge sums of revenue.
The Chairman hinted that the state government has initiated moves to permanently address the issue adding that the State Board of Internal Revenue is closely partnering with all genuine Insurance firms in the state to ensure that the nefarious activities of the fake groups was effectively checked.
According to him, “We have also commenced the sensitization of the people of the state on the need for them to always patronize listed genuine Insurance firms for their insurance needs and their third party motor insurance coverâ€.
