2011: NGO, right groups root for Jonathan

By Tony Nwankwo
A mandate given to President Goodluck Jonathan from 2011, will ensure continuity of the Yar’Adua administration and guarantee the goodwill that flowed from the amnesty granted to militants in the Niger Delta region.

It is, therefore, in the interest of all concerned, including Northerners, that Jonathan contests the presidential election in 2011 to shame those who are scheming for the position in their selfish and parochial interests.

These views were expressed in a statement by  civil societies and non governmental organisations in Bayelsa State by Chief Walter Ekereke, National Coordinator of Bayelsa-based True Nigeria Success Group.

The group called on the President to yield to the voice of the people by contesting the presidential election next year and afterwards create an environment devoid of the high-handedness and nepotism that characterised previous administrations in the country.

It condemned “the flood of misguided utterances emanating from groups of supposedly notable political figures who have allowed their selfish motivations and inordinate ambitions to becloud their sense of justice in the country,” the group said.

The group criticised “those who had held similar positions several years back for which their acts still remain questioned today,” adding, “true Nigeria Success Group wishes to reiterate that Nigerians who now known better, cannot be deceived any longer.”

The group called on Nigerians to rally round President Jonathan to make his remaining tenure of the Yar’Adua administration memorable and his own administration from 2011 a success.
