2011: Group urges northern leaders’ support for Jonathan

By George Onah
Port Harcourt—A pressure group,Victory Vanguard for Yar’Adua/Jonathan’s Presidency, has called on Northern leaders to encourage President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2011 Presidency, “rather than planning to sabotage his efforts” by insisting on zoning the position to the North.
Victory Vanguard argued that “the emergence of President Jonathan as the leader of the country today was divine and he should be allowed to complete the eight years of late President Umaru  Yar’Adua because it was a joint ticket.”

Speaking to Vanguard in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, South-South Co-ordinator of the group, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbonda, said “it must be made clear that President Jonathan has not derailed from the seven-point agenda of Yar’Adua.

“We believe that God has taken care of the zoning policy, going by the turn of events, which enthroned Jonathan, except the Northern leaders opposing Jonathan’s ticket in 2011 are attempting to contest the decision of God Almighty.

We are also not in agreement with the threat by some Northern leaders that the area will move en-mass to another party if Jonathan eventually contests the presidency in 20011. Clearly, such threat is based on selfishness and greed of a few cabals in the North.”

Ogbonda praised the president for “his efforts so far in tackling fuel scarcity and restoring the image of the country in the international community.”

He wants the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to “stop the acrimony currently rocking the party and embrace the ideals of the founding fathers, to provide dividends of democracy to the citizenry”.

“The party must present the people’s choice for election in 2011 as a necessary basis towards availing the nation good governance and seek the face of God to ensure rapid socio-economic and political transformation of the country”, it said.
