UGHELLI—NIGER DELTA Common Cause, NDCC, a political pressure group, has charged President Goodluck Jonathan to shun pressure from people calling on him to run for election in 2011 in the interest of the unity, peace and good governance of the country.
The group in a statement after its meeting in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, weekend, advised the President to respect the zoning arrangement of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The statement by Henry Tafri and Ojo Osagie, said, “the unity and indivisibility of the Nigeria Nation is non-negotiable.The President, should as a matter of urgency, look into the marginalization and other grievances of other ethnic nationalities in the Niger-Delta.
“To this end, we call on Mr. President to form an all inclusive government that benefit and carry along other ethnic nationalities in the Niger-Delta, such as the Urhobos, Efiks, Ikwerres, Annangs, Ekpeyes, Andonis, Itsekiris, Aniomas, Isokos, Ogojas, Edos, Ogonis among others,” the group added.
“President Jonathan should urgently take a critical look at the issue concerning Mrs. Cecilia Ibru of Oceanic Bank because the wide and undue publicity given to her case point to a deliberate and orchestrated attempt to humiliate and destroy the legacy of Chief Michael Ibru, a Nigerian and foremost Urhobo industrialist, whose interest spans through all sectors of the Nigerian economy and has provided succor and employment to the teeming poverty stricken people of the Niger-Delta,†the group added.
