Director General of the National Sports Commission, Chief Patrick Ekeji was emphatic when he told the Nigeria Football Association, NFA that there would be no reason for failure at next month’s 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa as all necessary requirement for successful prosecution of the Mundial have been provided.
While making open the Federal Government release of the appropriated fund of N900 million to the NFA for the preparation and participation of the Eagles at the World Cup, Ekeji, who also is the secretary of the Presidential Task Force said the PTF has successfully done all that the NFA and indeed the players require to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians while in South Africa.
“As the Super Eagles make final preparations for the matches of South Africa 2010, the PTF has successfully done all that the NFA and, indeed, the players require to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians with heart-thumbing performances.
“The Eagles have been well motivated such that money for bonuses and allowances will not be a problem to the NFA following the approval of World Cup participation funds for the football body by the Federal Governmentâ€, Chief Patrick Ekeji said yesterday.
He noted that last May, the Federal Government decided to put a Task Force in place to complement the efforts of the NFA in getting the country a ticket for the World Cup in South Africa.
“During our inauguration, the government was definite in stating our major tasks — to ensure qualification for and effective participation in the FIFA World Cup, South Africa 2010.
“It would have been a tragedy if the Eagles did not qualify to participate in the World Cupâ€, he added.
