Police arrest 16 trucks with crude oil

By Gabriel ENOGHOLASE, Benin
Policemen from Zone 5 Command of the Nigeria Police, Benin City, have arrested sixteen trucks laden with crude oil, allegedly said to be products illegally siphoned from NNPC pipelines.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, Muhammed Abubakar who disclosed this yesterday while briefing newsmen, said some of the suspects behind the illegal bunkering had been arrested while others fled leaving their trucks behind.

Speaking through the Zone 5 Public Relations Officer, DSP Umar Jada, the AIG said that at the time of arrest of the trucks, the suspects were allegedly freighting their consignments with fake NNPCC waybills.

He said that pipeline vandalization was a grave economic sabot age and that petroleum products were the heart and soul of the nation; and therefore the zone 5 Command would sustain the drive to bring illegal bunkering to its barest minimum.

Mr. Abubakar disclosed that over 12 suspects earlier arrested for illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalization were facing trail at the federal High Court in Benin.
