BENIN—Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has flagged off the construction of four roads in Etsako West, Etsako East, Akoko Edo and Esan Central Local Government Areas of the state, with a promise to ensure justice and fairness in the execution of projects across the state.
The governor said the road projects being executed were selected according to how they affected more communities, adding that his mandate was to develop every part of the state.
Flagging off the construction of the 5.5 kilometre Iyamho-Iyora road in Etsako West Local Government Area, Comrade Oshiomhole maintained that the relationship between the two communities would be strengthened as the movement of farm produce would become easier.
The 10-kilometre Ivbioghe-Igiode-Uzanu road in Etsako East Local Government Area was also flagged off and the governor pointed out that there is no way the rural communities could be integrated without road network.
He disclosed that all the road projects being embarked upon across the state would be adequately supervised to ensure that the contractors executed quality jobs.
“The state government will not pay the contractors on the basis of certificate alone but on what has been certified physically,†he noted.
At Akoko Edo Local Government Area where he flagged off the construction of the 22-kilometer Igarra – Enwan – Akuku- Ojirami – Dangbala- Uneme Osu – Oja and Ososo road, the governor said governance must translate to changing the lives of the people, stressing that when communities were linked with roads, their economy would be integrated into the national and state economies.
Acknowledging the fact that Akoko Edo was one of the marginalized communities in the state, Oshiomhole promised that the state government would tackle it from all fronts.
The governor reiterated that every part of the state would get justice and assured the people of Okpe that the road in their community would not be left out.
At Esan Central where the Eguare –Usugbenu – Irrua-Eguare-Ebudin-Ugbegun- Izogen-Ujogba road was also flagged off, Oshiomhole said though the state government cannot fix all the roads in the state in one day, he disclosed that a bold statement would be made.
“I feel fulfilled that God has used us to formally flag off these roads which were designed with all features and specifications that will make them last for a long time like those in developed countries. The contractors for all the roads have been paid and they have all mobilized to site. It is therefore the responsibility of our traditional rulers and the youths to monitor the road projects. Apart from the roads schools, hospitals, water and electricity will be provided in the communities“, the governor added.
