IN LINE with Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikkoâ€™s resolution to put an end to activities of smugglers, Ogun Area Command of the service has seized goods worth N 190,307,992.00 within eight months.
The Command also smashed new trends used by smugglers to facilitate their activities, through superior information gathering network.
Disclosing this to CustomsWatch Customs Area Controller Ogun Area Command, Controller A.M Jamo, regretted that the use of motor bike for smuggling has become a nuisance, but noted that his men was able to crush the smuggler behind it.
His words: â€œThe value of the goods we seized is worth N 190,307,992.00, within the same period of eight months the command generated and accounted for the sum of one billion, three hundred and forty one million four hundred and six thousand, nine hundred and eighty naira, two kobo as revenue(import /exercise duties, ETLS and other levies) for the government.
â€œIn our continued and sustained anti smuggling intelligence gathering efforts to rid this command of smugglers , we were able to smash the new trends and tactics used by smugglers . The antenna boys(informants) employed by smugglers to give them information on movement of our mobile surveillance squads were dislodged by our superior information gathering network.â€
