Mr. Frank Nweke Jr, former Minister for Information has said that only full implementation of the budget would accelerate the nation’s economic growth.
Nweke Jr, made the remark at an interactive forum between business executives from Harvard Business School , U.S. and Nigerian businessmen and policy makers in Lagos .
He said that government should ensure proper implementation of the budget to fast track development in infrastructures such as road and electricity.
According to Nweke Jr, who is also the Chairman of Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), we all know of the nation’s budget but in terms of implementation we are not there and it is worrisome.
“The health and education sectors are crumbling. Money meant for the improvement of these key sectors are often returned to the treasury and it is not a good phenomenal,’’ he said.
On the issue of economic growth released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, he said that the robust figure does not in reality corroborate with the quality of life of an average Nigerian.
“We have discussed the issue at the NESG fora and made the point and the full implementation of budget 2010 known to the Acting President,†he said.
According to him, the kind of growth we are seeing is not growth from the real sector but on the account of high price of crude oil at the international market.
Nweke, who was a product of the Harvard University , said that the delegation’s visit would be of immense value to Nigeria because the delegates are owners of businesses in various sectors.
