NSC stalls AFN Commonwealth Games camping

By Ben Efe
Athletics Federation of Nigeria’s camping ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games has been stalled due to lack of funds.

The athletes and coaches invited to the camp in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, were sent home during the Easter break, but three weeks after the AFN is unable to restart the exercise. And this is beginning to tell on athletes’ performances as noticed during the AFN golden League.

“The basic truth is that we have no money to run the camp,” said a member of the AFN technical committee.
He added that all efforts to get funding from the National Sports Commission has not yielded any result.

“Right from the start, the AFN funded the camping. But now we don’t have any money. We will resume camping when whenever we get funding from the NSC.”
