NGO makes case for suspended NSITF boss

A non-governmental organisation, Integrity Forward, IF, has berated the Board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, for delaying the reinstatement of its Managing Director, Chief Enukora Okoli, who was suspended last year on allegations of diverting the funds of the establishment, but exonerated by the Police.

The group also asked President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately intervene in the matter and call back Chief Okoli, so that he can continue his good work at NSITF.

A statement by Integrity Forward’s National Coordinator, Dr. Ezekiel Aliyu, condemned what it termed as an attempt by the NSITF Board to malign the integrity and reputation of Chief Okoli.  The group also asked President Jonathan to intervene urgently in the matter, since it appeared that Chief Okoli was being victimised over a frivolous and unsubstantiated petition by some faceless characters, who claimed to be staff of NSITF.

“What is really worrisome and intriguing in the entire charade is that after being absolved by the Inspector General of Police over these spurious allegations, the Board has refused to call  Chief Okoli back,” Aliyu said.

He further said that his group had painstakingly investigated the allegations against Chief Okoli and discovered that the Board may have ganged up against him after he repositioned NSITF and made it a viable venture.

The group further said that the travesty of justice playing out at NSITF could work against the current administration’s policy of encouraging Nigerians in the Diaspora to return home.
