The last may not have been heard on the Super Eagles World Cup hotel saga as more facts are emerging from South Africa on how the Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Ibrahim Isa Bio, took the situation by storm and put a final stop to the uncertainty that surrounded the Eagles camp for the Mundial.
The latest is that the Nigeria Football Federation would be probed after the World Cup. This was the feeling of the minister after an inspection of the discredited Hampshire Hotel which the NFA had earlier settled for.
Sports Vanguard gathered that Bio said he was “alarmed†that the Nigerian Football Federation had been allowed, by Fifa, to select a non-accredited hotel.
However, he said an investigation into the decision would only be carried out after the World Cup. “We are at a critical stage now in our preparations. We want to focus on our players. We will look into that after the World Cup. It’s not good to do it now,†Bio was quoted as saying in a South African paper.|
As at Monday, the Hampshire hotel had not been informed of the change in position by Nigeria but were getting feelers from the media about the development. Our source said, “Hampshire Hotel has not been informed of the move, Bio said Fifa had endorsed the new hotel and he was delighted with the decision.â€
“Fifa is satisfied. The pitch is very good. The municipality has promised to put floodlights up in the next three weeks. Everything is sorted out. I am very happy,†he said.
