By Dapo Akinrefon
CHAIRMAN of Oyangbene community in Burutu Local government area of Delta and National President of Ijaw Peoples Congress, Messrs Ebikeme Obosu, and Ekanpou Enewaridideke respectively have debunked reports that militants stormed the community.

In a statement jointly signed by the duo, the group dismissed the reports of a purported attack, adding that the publication that militants stormed Oyangbene was a creation of  enemies of progress.

Accordingly, the duo maintained that “no militants stormed Oyangbene as alledged recently.
“There is no disruption of the project as the contracted company, Beks Kims Nigeria Limited, has met all the terms of the MOU signed with the host communities. The publication that militants stormed Oyangbene is a creation of enemies of progress.”

Setting the records straight, the community leaders faulted mischief makers for allegedly being the brains behind the report, just as it called for calm in the community.

They said: “Oyangbene has the presence of JTF soldiers and if militants actually stormed the town, the JTF soldeirs would have countered the attack.Let the the public know from the JTF soldiers in Oyangbene if there was anything like that. There is absolute peace in Oyangbene community.

“The traditional ruler of Ngbilebiri, His Royal Majesty, Bigboroa Hilter, should be contacted to know the the truth of that fictitious publication because Oyangbene community had a meeting with him yesterday.

We wish to establish that the only challenge we have in the community is that of some persons threatening the lives of the accreditted representatives of the community via text messages and the the police are on top of this threat situation.”

They called on the Delta State government to apprehend the mischief makers in the community.
