Make your ambition known, Orji urges deputy

By Anayo Okoli

Umuahia — GOVERNOR Theodore Orji has asked his deputy to stop playing hide and seek game and come out openly to declare his position regarding contesting for his seat in 2011.

The governor was reacting to an interview where the Deputy Governor, Comrade Chris Akomas, said it was the structure that brought the governor and himself that will decide who runs for 2011.

Akomas had also said the party, which the governor was the leader, would also determine who runs, though he never declared he was going to run.

However, reacting through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Kingsley Emereuwa, Governor Orji said he viewed that comment to mean that the deputy governor had interest to run against him.

According to Emereuwa, they are viewing the comment with seriousness because the deputy governor “knows that the governor is going for re-election, based on the people’s wish.”

He said one would have expected a deputy governor who works in harmony with his boss to say that his boss was running for re-election.

Emereuwa, however, said that Governor Orji had not publicly declared his intention to run again but noted that he had been having a lot of pressures from the people.

“The governor has not made any formal declaration but the clamour is from the people. The clamour is beyond the party,” Emereuwa said.

He said “we are tired of these hide and seek game. He should come out and declare his intention.”
