…fingers his boss

By Ola Ajayi
FOR allegedly daring to oppose his boss who was quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for corruption-related issue, the Vice Chairman, Ona Ara Local Government, Mr. Akinlolu Adegboyega claimed he escaped assassination by the whiskers, weekend.

The Chairman of the council, Mr. Taiwo Oke, was allegedly invited, detained last Friday and asked to explain his role in the mismanagement of N12 million and another N8.2 billion road contract involving the 33 councils in the state.

But the Chairman exonerated himself from the attack, saying he did not send anybody to attack him.

He said “I heard it too this morning (Sunday) that some people were arrested in Ore-Meji area following the alleged attack on him. He has problem in Ore-Meji, being his political ward. I will soon go and see the DPO in the area to ascertain what went wrong because I learnt there was crisis in his ward. But let me make it clear that I wouldn’t have sent anybody to attack him, what for? He is only trying to be mischievous and link his personal crisis with his people to me and this is quite unfortunate.’’

While explaining how he escaped alleged assassins’ bullets who swooped on his  residence at Ore-Meji area of the city at 3.45pm on Saturday, Oke told newsmen that the hoodlums were calling for his head when they got to him unannounced.

According to him, the alleged assailants were 40 in number and that they threatened to kill him for being disloyal to the chairman of the council.

He was thankful to God that two of the hoodlums were allegedly arrested by the policemen at the Agugu Oremeji Police Division, adding that the security agency should still try harder to get all those involved in the alleged attack as he claimed they were after his life.

”Everybody in Ona-Ara Local Government knows that I am an easy going person and if there is perceived political misunderstanding between my boss and I, we can still sit down together and resolve it amicably as members of the same political party, PDP. And I must add that, save for divine intervention, only God knows what could have happened to me on the ill-fated day.’

Dismissing the love-lost between Governor Alao-Akala and the Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin as a remote cause of the attempted attack, he added that the two PDP chieftains could talk it over between each other.
