Lawyer lauds Jonathan’s anti-corruption drive

By Festus Ahon
UGHELLI—A legal practitioner, Mr Jesutega Onokpasa, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his strong crusade against corruption and urged Nigerians to give him the needed support to move the country forward.
Onokpasa, in a statement yesterday at Ughelli, Delta State,  said the  president’s crusade against corruption should be sustained.

He said:   “It is my considered view that accusations emanating from a host of suspicious quarters that President Goodluck Jonathan is heating up the polity lacks credibility. The President is merely doing what is expected of any serious leader.

“It is only those who expected things to be business as usual who should have problems with a president who is merely doing exactly what the constitution demands of his office.

“Only election riggers would quake at the prospect of comprehensive electoral reform; only kleptomaniacs would cringe at the government’s anti-corruption drive; and only the cabal that imports and markets generators would fear the worst now that Jonathan is personally overseeing the electricity sector.

“The view that he is merely doing all these because he wants to run for office come 2011 is neither here nor there. Are those who are saying this implying that a president who doesn’t plan to run should just sit down at the Villa doing absolutely nothing but the looting of the treasury?”
